Carli and Makenzie Sears grew up in Charleston, WV and attended Camp for many summers starting when they were 9 and 11 years old respectively. They loved experiencing the beauty and adventure of camp as well as the amazing opportunity to meet and make new friends from all over the country, and the world!
Carli passed away tragically, and way too soon, as a result of a hit and run incident in 2016. Shortly afterwards, a memorial scholarship fund was established in her name with the goals of keeping her name, memory and energy alive within the Camp community and to allow for children from Charleston, WV to discover camp in the same spirit Carli and Makenzie did.
Each summer, we aim to give the gift of camp to a child who has the same spirit and joy of life that Carli did! A child that is optimistic, energetic, open to new friendships, willing to try different activities, embraces diversity, enjoys the outdoors, and is excited about summer camp! A few key aspects of the program goals are outlined below:
There is not a formal acceptance policy; multiple applications are not accepted.
Upon consideration, the family would be offered the chance to speak with Iain and Amy, past camp families in Charleston as well current staff in the area.
Upon request, Charleston families can be provided to speak with prior to committing to attending Camp. Prior to the summer, all efforts would be made to meet in person with camp representatives as well, either in Charleston or at Camp.
Amy, Iain and everyone at Camp Twin Creeks looks forward to remembering Carli through this program and the bright young souls that will discover Camp each summer in her name!
