We’re excited to share that Camp Twin Creeks was recently featured in an article by Virginia Summer Camp, highlighting what makes our camp community so special. Our director, Iain McClements, was interviewed about the Youth Development Philosophy at the heart of everything we do.
Here are a few highlights from the piece:
Our Mission:
“While we’re offering fun activities on the surface, in the background children are growing, gaining independence, and taking away lessons that last well beyond two weeks.”
On What Campers Gain:
“I hope that campers leave feeling more confident, assured, and aware of others. We want them to be comfortable in their own skin, away from the distractions and pressures of home and school. Be kind, be caring, be open, and we’ll take care of the rest.”
Our Strong Community:
“We have created a wonderfully strong community that sees campers return year after year and eventually turn into the next generation of camp counselors. That means traditions carry over and their appreciation and enjoyment of everything camp is passed along to new, younger campers.”
The article beautifully captures the camp experience – from our daily rituals like Polar Bear swims and campfire gatherings to the lasting friendships and personal growth that happen in the Allegheny Mountains.
We hope you enjoy reading about the place where children spend their summers building confidence, independence, and memories that last a lifetime.
