Behind the Scenes: Our Canyonlands Campfire Retreat

While your campers are back in school and the leaves are changing, we have been hard at work at Camp Twin Creeks—and we’re excited to share what we’ve been up to!

Last week, we gathered in Washington, DC for our annual Canyonlands Campfire Retreat. For those who might not know, Camp Twin Creeks is proud to be part of Canyonlands Camps, a collective of six amazing summer camp programs across the country. Each fall, we come together to share ideas, learn from each other, and push ourselves to create even better summer experiences for our campers.

Learning from the Best

There’s something special about sitting around a table (or, in our case, a conference room!) with fellow camp directors and staff who share our passion and values for camp. Over two days, we dove deep into everything that makes camp tick. We swapped best practices on everything from summer programming to staff training. We discussed what worked beautifully this past summer, and where we see opportunities to grow. We talked candidly about hiring—how to find those incredible counselors who become lifelong role models for our campers.

The best part? Each camp brings their own uniqueness and style and what they’ve learned, and sharing all that just makes us better at being us.

Celebrating Our Core Values

One of the retreat highlights was recognizing team members across our camps who embody our core values. We were thrilled (though not surprised!) when Iain received the “Act Like an Entrepreneur, Work as a Team” award. It perfectly captures his approach to leadership—always innovating, always collaborative, and always focused on what’s best for our campers and staff.

Looking Ahead

As we left DC, we went home with notebooks full of ideas, renewed energy, and excitement for summer 2026. We’re already running with some of what we learned, and dreaming up ways to make next summer even more magical than the last.

Camp doesn’t just happen in June, July, and August. It’s a year-round commitment to excellence, growth, and community. These fall retreats remind us why we do what we do—and they inspire us to keep reaching higher.

We can’t wait to welcome your campers back to Camp Twin Creeks and show them what we’ve been working on. The best summers are still ahead of us!

Stay tuned for more updates as we gear up for an incredible 2026 season.
